It feels like Summer break has just started as time flies by. This is the first week that I am not running a youth basketball camp but that hasn't kept me out of the gym. We are running workouts for our Lancers 3 or 4 nights per week, as well as hosting our Elite Prospect's every Thursday for skill development sessions.
Last weekend I went to watch some AAU hoops in Kingston, and this weekend we hosted our second of three Lancers Summer Recruitment Camps. It's a good opportunity for us to get an early idea of how our team is shaping up heading into the season.
Meanwhile, lots of local athletes were in action at the CNIT this weekend in Burlington & Mississauga.

Here is our latest video from our Lancer's Elite Prospect Workouts. With only one workout remaining, we are pushing these young athletes to take their skills to another level. The video focuses on our ball handling segment near the conclusion of our practice. Players do various dribble moves through the pylons using the weighted basketballs before repeating the same moves with the regular basketballs afterwards. It will be sad to see these workouts come to an end this Thursday as we enjoy being around a group of kids that are so enthusiastic about improving their skills. We hope that we get more opportunities in the near future to continue helping the guys progress on the basketball court. | |
| This Saturday and Sunday at Loyalist College, the Lancers Men's basketball program hosted 12 players that are aiming to be a part of the team this coming season. These athletes were put through three 2 hour practices in a 24 hour span and they performed at a high level throughout. Some of our goals as a coaching staff were to test their abilities to communicate on defense, play smart in transition, and ultimately buy into our team philosophy. Our next recruitment camp is coming up in a few weeks and will be the last of the summer. Our scrimmages will be open to the public and we encourage you to come watch. |
I am very proud that a few players I had the privilege to coach this past season were competing at the CNIT basketball tournament this weekend. Not only were they competing among the top teams in the country they finished with a Silver medal at the 15U age group. Congratulations to Eastern Ontario Elite, their players and coaches, and especially the three players 'Reppin The County'; Brodie, Alex, and Devon! Hopefully this experience has added to your desire and love for the game!
,For those of you that want to get a head start on your upcoming basketball season 613 will be offering one more training camp before the summer ends. The camp is open to athletes that will be entering grades 9 through 12 as of September 2017. Not only do you receive 10 hours of next level training with OCAA coaches and players but you also get some limited edition 613 gear! Spots are limited so sign up as soon as possible.
